Thomas Olsen is former Head of the Cataract Service Center at the University Eye Clinic, Aarhus Hospital, Denmark. Hi has extensive clinical experience in cataract surgery of all kinds (> 10.000 procedures) and other intraocular lens (IOL) surgery, including toric, multifocal, secondary and phakic IOLs (ICL).

His scientific focus has been the quality of modern lens surgery, especially biometry and improved IOL power calculation methods. He has developed the computer software PhacoOptics ® based on patented methods to assist surgeons in the calculation of the most accurate IOL power. In the years 1999 – 2004 he served as a Chairman of the Danish National Cataract Outcome Registry. From 2006 – 2014 he was President of the Scandinavian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (SSCRS). From 2007 – 2015 Board Member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS). He is a member of the prestigious International Intraocular Implant Club (IIIC) and a member of the scientific committee of the German Ophthalmic Surgeons (DOC). He is co-founder of the IOL Power Club, a newly established group of scientists in the field of biometry and IOL power calculation. His scientific production comprises more than 150 publications in peer-reviewed journals as well as book chapters, videos, and numerous non-peer-reviewed publications and oral presentations all over the world.
